This training session will explore tools for supporting the wellbeing of students as they return to school, helping teachers and school leaders provide specific assistance for students who are struggling with anxiety, depression or lack of motivation. The session will also empower school leaders and staff to support colleagues and parents in coping with the many changes occurring at this time. This workshop is suitable for school leaders, Counsellors, Pastoral Care leaders, Heads of House and Teachers . Participants will be equipped with:
• Self-care strategies for managing uncertainty and change
• Skills for supporting mental health in students as they return to school
• An understanding of the impacts of trauma and isolation, and how to shift out of these patterns
• Tools to assist parents, teachers and schools through this time of crisis
They will walk away with practical strategies for managing:
• Student stress and anxiety about the future
• Student isolation, apathy and emotional upheaval
• Parent and staff anxiety and concern
• Their own stress in facing this pandemic - both personally and professionally
About the Facilitator
Dr Hayley Watson is a clinical psychologist and program developer, and her passion is helping people find the freedom in cultivating their deepest truth and living up to their fullest potential. Hayley has developed programs for young people in Canada, the US, the UK, and Australia. The culmination of her research and experience can be found in Open Parachute - an online video-based mental health curriculum for middle & high schools with separate resources for students, parents, and teachers.
